The Kidwelly Industrial Museum Trust was set up in 1980 by a small group of enthusiastic volunteers who wished to preserve for future generations the history of the hand mill method of making tinplate. The idea was first put forward by Mr Wm.Hill Morris, the then president of the Kidwelly Civic Society.

Our first grant of £350 was received from the Prince of Wales Trust. Following this grants were received from the science museum and the British Steel Corporation. The Llanelli Borough Council then purchased the site and the trust was granted a lease and applied for charitable status.

The Kidwelly Museum Trust runs the museum on a partnership basis with Carmarthenshire County Museum Services.
